Formal pattern poems are poems that invite an extra helping of rhythm and discipline to create. Some weave together rhymes, meter and a precise number of lines all within a specific sequence, such as a sonnet. Others, such as a spatial (or concrete) poem combines words and art in a visible pattern, such a circle or shape of an airplane that illustrates or compliments the theme of the poem. In this workshop, we will look at examples of formal pattern poems and trying our hand at creating one.
